End of the road

Do you ever have times in your life when it seems like you've hit the end of the road and you just don't know what to do or if by reaching the end that you've even accomplished anything worth while? Well at the moment that is how I'm feelin maybe it is due to my insomnia or maybe just because life has been disappointing today. But who knows?

Oh how much easier it would be if we could be characters in our favorite novels, to be given powers or skills far past our own. What new heights could be physically possible for the human body to reach if we weren't so limited with time money or intelligence? Our brains seem to function at a very low level compared to the max that they are capable of is that not also true of our bodies? Why then have we not evolved past the point of struggling through life? Why can't we go to school for 4 years or maybe less in stead of 12+ years? I would think that by now we would have computers that could tell us the best way to program every living being on earth to make them faster, stronger, smarter, or anything that could make an individual reach his or her potential. It seems foolish not to use computers in this way, in order to keep our own minds comparable or superior to the machines that serve us.

This quandary makes me think of the matrix, although the human race was enslaved by the machines if they could accept that it wasn't real and break free of the matrix there was no limit to the talents that they could posses at the click of a button. Does it really matter that they had to insert spikes into the back of their brains? Heck, if I could get all that information, and remember it, at the click of a button I would know every language fluently, I would learn every type of martial art, I would learn to use the stock market so i could turn $100 into a million over night, then I'd want to help to fix all of the worlds problems with logic and reason.

A lot of the problems of the world seem to stem from ignorance so why not cure that ignorance with our trusty electronic gadgets? We could make them so that they would be voice activated and in that voice activation they would teach you how to live without waste or want in your own language so that we could educate the globe into a super society. It would be like a super-intelligent Utopian society that could all fix their own problems.

The largest flaw I can see in this though is human nature. Humans tend to destroy and covet one anothers properties. If we could somehow get everyone on earth on the same playing field some people would not think that was good enough. Humans on a global scale seem to have a need to devour, conquer, steal, cheat, lie, and any number of more horrid things just to achieve some semblance of power. Why do we want and/or need power?

Now some people may say 'oh I don't know what you're talking about I don't want any power'. But even those that claim to not want any power or authority are most likely finding ways, seemingly unbeknownst to them, to have something over other people. Think about it now, it can be as simple as if you buy someone dinner or a coffee. By doing this you have in some sense made yourself out better than the person you are doing the favor for. Either by expecting to receive payment back or by not allowing/wanting them to pay you back you have now created a separation where you can now bring that time up whenever you need. Maybe the next time you go out to eat you could say to that person "You owe me for last time". By doing this you have a sense of power over the person who is in your debt or by not having them pay you back you could use it as a way to lash out at that person if you were ever at a disagreement. I have seen this time and time again where people will call others moochers or other such names to degrade that individual. This normally only happens during an argument or disagreement but this seemingly invisible 'points system' is constantly used by every class that I have witnessed.

Unfortunately there is no concrete human power that can be trusted to govern us so that a Utopian lifestyle can be obtained. So we must all strive to be the best people we can be and constantly ask "What would Jesus do". Now I know what you're thinking, 'that's so corny' but its true! If we can even work on being like Jesus, the only sinless human to have ever lived, then think about how much better life on earth could be. Everyone would be more self-sacrificing, grudges would not be held between us. Relationships would continually become stronger instead of weaker. Greed would not overpower our souls and eat us from the inside out and humanity would be better as a whole. Even if you are not religious I implore you to read all that Jesus said and live by the words he spoke. Doing this will definitely change your life for the better.

Peace out,

The Read-headed Step-Child
